I was lucky go catch Terisa Siagatonu throw it down with this beautiful poem on Saturday at Jean Melesaine’s Navigating Queer Waves show at Galería de la Raza I love how these badass poets of color are queerifying the world one poem at a time!
NOTE: This is only part of the poem.

When “I” came out
I was the first one out of all of us to do it
It wasn’t on my terms
It wasn’t from a closet, no.
Our people don’t come from closets
They come from land and water
And I told you
I am constantly learning the difference
between loving the ocean
And becoming one
And I think I’m an ocean y’all
And I didn’t come out
I fell out
I spilled and wet myself, and
everything around me
I don’t have bones like that,
so nothing broke
I didn’t break anything, I thought
At not on purpose
But I made a loud crashing
sound against my own chest
I know that much is true
